Due to an update to the Access Control in the SWR update of 14 September 2009 page
security using a user list (Basic access control) has been phased out and merged
with Access control User Groups.(Serif Statement)
In this tutorial update on page protection I’m going to first go through the New
Access Control smart object(User List) then the following:-
- Setting up Login Control
- Add users to your users list
- Add a group and populate it
- Using a group to control a blog
New Access Control
The New Access Control is spread over 4 tabs to reduce the clutter of the interface.
1. Users
2. Groups
3. Import/export
4. Bans
Most of these functions are as they were previous but just spread out within there
own tabbed page with the User Tab having some major changes
Users (Photo)
The User Tab is made up of 4 sections.
- Signup and Login - This section enables you to set up the access control how you
would like your users to signup or login and whether they are redirected after login.
- User List - List of your user login email addresses.
- Add New User - Controls for adding a new user manually.
- User Control - This section is new and you can change/give passwords, activate and
resend activation emails manually.
Groups (Photo)
The Group Tab is made up of 2 sections.
- Create New Group - Create a new group, adding users on signup and auto login/out.
- User Group Management - Adding users to a group and managing a group.
Import/Export (Photo)
The Import/Export Tab is made up of 2 sections.
- Import users - Import your list of email addresses from a .csv file
- Export users - Export your address to a variety of file formats inc .csv, .LDIF(Thunderbird)
or semicolon separated.
Bans (Photo)
The Ban Tab is made up of one section where you can suspend users by using their
email address or ban a IP address or organisation.
