Inserting RSS Reader
Instead of creating your own RSS Feed you can insert a feed from another source with this tool.
You can customise the background for the feed by putting a Quick Shape behind to a colour to match your site.
Have your own feed?
If you have your own feed already you can also put this onto a page to display as well. If you don't want to have the RSS feed button on your site but just the RSS reader you will have to delete it, but by deleting it you delete the rss.xml file so you will have to produce your own.
To do this initially put the RSS feed onto your page and publish this page to a folder on your hard disk.
Open this folder and find the rss.xml file then open notepad and drag and drop the rss.xml file into notepad to open it.
Save this under a different name but always put the .xml at the end.
You will see when you have opened the .xml file how it is written so to make a new .xml file up copy this style or overwrite this one but don't forget to save the old file.
When you have done this you can delete the RSS tool button and upload the .xml file you made to your server making sure the link address is correct for the RSS reader.
Do you need the UK date format in your reader?
You will as default in the WP’s RSS reader have the date in the USA format. There was this question in the Serif forum asking about this with one of the users getting an answer to this problem from tech support.
With the answer being “If you add the extra parameter &format_uk=1 to the source data for the RSS feed then the date is displayed in UK format”.
To this day I’m still trying to add this parameter to the feed with no success.
I have found that by adding it to the reader it does change the date to the UK format as can be seen from the reader on the previous page. Below is the way I achieved this.
1. Right click the rss reader on your WP page and select attach html.
2. Find the line that starts <iframe and ends </iframe> copy this code.
3. Move the rss reader from it's position, as this is redundant now.
4. Select the insert html code button on the left toolbar and draw a box in the same place as your rss reader was.
5. In the attach html window that come up select the paste to body button, top right.
6. Follow the line that you have just pasted in until you come to &ddate=0
7. After the 0 put in the added code so it looks &ddate=0&format_uk=1
8. Make sure there are no spaces before or after this added code as all this code needs to be one string.
RSS on a secure page
Questioner on the WPX2 forum, this thread, had trouble with their RSS feed on a protected page in that they could not see the feed. If you have signed in to this site go to the next page in this section to see if you can see the feed - secure page here
