JW Silverlight Player
What is Silverlight?
Silverlight is the Microsoft equivalent to Adobes Flash. Quote from Silverlight site “Microsoft Silverlight is a cross-browser, cross-platform, and cross-device plug-in for delivering the next generation of .NET based media experiences and rich interactive applications for the Web.”
This Silverlight Player
The JW Player for Silverlight is a simple yet flexible player for displaying Windows Media video, audio and (live) streams on your website. While not yet widely installed and not as feature-rich as Flash, Silverlight is excellent for publishers who have content encoded in WMV or WMA. The player features a similar list of variables as the JW Player for Flash, with the exception of playlist support. The 1.1 version also introduces a javascript API.
Go to JW WMV Player site for more information but as a quick guide follow this tutorial but is similar to the normal flash based JW Mediaplayer.
1. Download and install the Silverlight application from this link.
2. Download the JW WMV Player.
3. Transfer the two .JS files and the. XAML file from the download ZIP to your website and include these lines in the header of your site:
<script type="text/javascript" src="silverlight.js"></script>
<script type="text/javascript" src="player.js"></script>
4. Use JW Wizard to generate the correct code to put into WP. Make sure the absolute links are correct if needed for the player and video files.
If you have followed the tutorial of the Flash based JW Mediaplayer and had that working you should have no trouble with this Silverlight player as well.
Below is a demonstration of the player put into WP. I found through trial and error that the js & xaml files have to be uploaded onto the same host as the web page. Below is a copy of the code I put into the body of the page via the “Insert html code” button, from the toolbar on the left. This web page and the js & xaml files are placed in the root of the folder with a absolute link to the WMV file on JW site. You can obviously link to your WMA or WMV file with a absolute link.
<script type="text/javascript" src="silverlight.js"></script>
<script type="text/javascript" src="wmvplayer.js"></script>
<div id="mediaspace"></div>
<script type="text/javascript">
var cnt = document.getElementById("mediaspace");
var src = "wmvplayer.xaml";
var cfg = {height:"250", width:"370", file:"http://www.longtailvideo.com/jw/upload/silverlight.w mv"};
var ply = new jeroenwijering.Player(cnt,src,cfg);
</script>
