Site Search Tool
Introduced into X2 is the ability to add a search facility to the site. It will search
for text in your web site created as Artistic, HTML or Creative text frame or tables.
Any protected pages will not be included in the search results.
To put this facility onto your site you have to place two items onto your web pages
using the search tool and results tool button, which are located just below the smart
objects tool on a fly out button.
1. Search Tool.
Decide if you want the search tool, as above, to be on all your pages on just on
a single page i.e. Home page.
To put it on all your pages, view the master page and after selecting the search
tool button click on the master page, where you require the search tool, to place
it. Resize as you require.
2. Search Results.
Add a new page to your site and clear the “inc in navigation” in it’s page properties.
View this page and select the search results tool from the search fly out button.
Click and drag an area on the page to place the search results box.
Double click this search box to format the results appearance.
- Change the Font typeface and Size.
- Uncheck Use Scheme Colour to pick your own text colours from a drop-down menu. Otherwise
the Web site's colour scheme for text will be applied.
- Uncheck Open links in new window to have hyperlink opens in the same window. Otherwise
a new window is displayed by default.
When you have finished setting the search tool up complete a full up load to finalise
the search tool setup. This produces a file named jssitesearch.js which the search
tool access to find the search results.
Future uploading to site.
When updating your site ALWAYS included the search results page along with the pages
that need to be uploaded. By including this results page it makes sure the jssitesearch.js
file updates with the new contents for the search tool.
Bug report
There has been a bug found when using this tool. See this thread in the serif forum.
If you use Double Quote marks on the pages you include for search these could corrupt
the jssitesearch.js file and when a search is done NO results are displayed. See
photo of illustrations as leaving the Double Quotes in here may stop search working
on this site.
Solutions
- Download the jssitesearch.js file to your PC and open in notepad. Search for Double
Quotes and put a \ between them. Re-upload to your host. You will have to do this
every update!!
- Use another way of displaying a Quote.
