On the next few page we will be looking at some of the minor updates that have been
introduced into X5. I think most of which will help/increase your workflow whilst
producing your sites.
Text boxes
Identification
The first item with text boxes is a bit of a negative thing for me anyway. If you
put a HTML and a Creative text box on your page and when you select each in turn
you will find that the nodes around the bounding box are the same colour. In the
past these used to be different as a quick way of telling which was which type.
Now to check this out:-
- Check the hint line at bottom of screen when text box selected
- Creative text box has an extra node, centre top for rotation, and an overflow button
below right.
- When text box selected, and you have Objects tab visible, the text frame is highlighted
here with box type.
Margins in HTML boxes
Up until now the only way to get any sort of margin in a HTML text box was to use
the indent left/right option in the text style dialogue box but now we can set these
up separately for left/right and top/bottom.
- Put a HTML text box on the page
- Select the “Frame setup” button on the context toolbar, this used to be greyed out
in previous versions of Webplus when using HTML text boxes, and set what margins
you require in the dialogue box. You will see the dash line of the margin when you
OK out of this dialogue.
- When you have set these margins but may want to increase the size you don’t have
to go back into this dialogue. Select the bounding box so it is a solid line around
the text box > put your cursor over the dash margin line and you will get a double
arrow > left click and drag to get to your required size.
- I have also found you don’t have to set the margins via the “Frame setup” first to
get margins, just select the text box > put your cursor over the bounding box line
to get this double arrow to set the margin size.
Paragraph Indents
New to text boxes is the ability to indent the start of paragraphs by the use of
the Tab key on the keyboard. Previous versions would only produce a small 5pix indent
where as X5 indents the paragraph by approx 47pix. If you don’t like this option
and want to revert to the old action of 5pix there is a check box in Tools > Options
> Text > Auto-correct > Options “ Use Tab key to alter paragraph indentation instead
of inserting a tab” that will do this.
A couple of things to consider in the use of this new option.
- If you press Tab before inserting text you will find that at every new paragraph
will be indented.
- If you insert text and then press tab at the start of the first paragraph only that
paragraph will be indented.
