Uploading
WebPlus makes it easy to upload and maintain your web site using the FTP client that is included within the software.
In the previous page you were shown how to setup your account details and test that you can connect to your host ready to upload your new site.
When you are ready to upload select the publish to web button on the standard toolbar.
The “Publish to web” dialogue window will appear.
If you are uploading an existing site you can choose which pages you want to upload within the “Uploading files” dialogue window which appears. WP downloads and checks the manifest on the server and the new upload files to see what needs changing, this is where you can review the changes that are going to take place and cancel the upload if required.
Note. If when uploading new pages added to the site that are inc. in the navbar you will have to do a full site incremental upload so the changes in the navbar are reflected in all pages. If you use the site search tool in your site always upload the site results page so as to include any added text to it’s search file.
2/2
The first time you upload you will need to upload the whole site.
1. Make sure you have the correct account selected
2. Check “Publish all pages”
3. Check “Back up the document”(optional) This will save your .wpp file onto your host as a backup.
5. When you OK this dialogue window WebPlus generates the html and associated files of your design ready to upload so depending on the size of your site it may take a few minutes before you see any more action, on my Vista laptop I even get “Not responding” in the window header, WP also gets an Internet connection and first time uploaders will upload all pages selected without anymore action taken.
In the “uploading files” dialogue you have the choice of “Incremental or Full upload”.
Check the option to “Delete unused remote files” to have WP delete all unused graphics & page files.
You can check for missing files by checking “Check for missing files” but this option can be slow. (with incremental upload only)
Use the incremental upload to upload pages that have changed since last upload.
Extra options with the “Publish to web” dialogue in X2 inc.
1. Database merging - This will be checked if you are using a Database, clear this if you do not want to merge the changes.
2. Site Checker - Use this to get your site checked out for layout problems. See help files.
3. Automatic Operation - If you have a large site to upload that will take time to get generated into html or database merge then check the boxes wanted under this option and when you OK out of the dialogue, no more dialogue will need to be OK until it has finished uploading.
View uploaded Web site
Once you have uploaded your site the “Web site Publishing” dialogue window will appear and if you have set the optional web address in the FTP account dialogue you only have to select “View this URL” button otherwise input the address and select the browser to view.
